An Evening with Mary Coin’s Author Marisa Silver

This free author appearance will appeal to both those who’ve read the book and those who plan to!  Marisa Silver will discuss her inspiration for Mary Coin and answer audience questions.  Signing to follow.  Books will be available to purchase on site, or bring your own copy. Don’t forget to visit our pop-up on-site exhibit at this event about today’s migrant workers courtesy of local chapters of the Human Rights Watch Student Task Force.

Mingle with the author and other book lovers at this Friends of Santa Clarita Library reception for the writer just prior to her library appearance.  Enjoy appetizers, desserts, wine and beer.  Tickets available starting February 12 at the FOL website or at any of the 3 Santa Clarita Public libraries.  Cost is $20 for Friends of Santa Clarita Library members, and $30 for all others. 

The Art of Illustrating with Our California’s Rafael López

A wonderful program with a drawing demonstration perfect for everyone from elementary school students to seniors!   Meet the award-winning illustrator who will sign books after his presentation.  Books will be available to purchase on site, or bring your own copy.

“Essence of a Moment” Art Exhibit and Reception with “Dorothea Lange”
Saturday, March 5 ……5 – 7 pm

Enjoy this unique opportunity to take in our city-sponsored art exhibit “Essence of the Moment” while learning more about photographer Dorothea Lange courtesy of a special presentation by a “Women in Time” interpreter from the local chapter of the American Association of University Women. Mingle with artists whose work is exhibited and enjoy light refreshments.

This fascinating documentary about Dorothea Lange will be accompanied by commentary from an award-winning local photographer. Learn about the woman who inspired the character of Vera in Mary Coin and shot the famous photo “Migrant Mother.” Discuss her photographic insights and what it means to shoot documentary photos.
